Fit notes to replace sick notes in April 2010

Overview
The Department for Work and Pensions has confirmed that GP sick notes are to be replaced by 'fit notes' with effect from 6 April 2010.
The Government consulted on the design and content of the new medical certificate last year (see briefing 416). The DWP's formal response to that consultation was published on 29 January. The response explains that the new format sick notes will contain two options:
• 'unfit for work' and
• 'may be fit for work taking account of the following advice'.
