Whistleblowing in care homes – new policies announced

Overview

Due to come into force over the autumn, the Care Quality Commission has set up a new ‘whistleblowers hotline’ and published guidance on whistleblowing to care home providers. The catalyst for this introduction has been the criticism received by CQC in recent months, particularly from the press, for failing to identify and prevent malpractice in care homes. Such failings were highlighted in June this year when the BBC’s Panorama broadcasted the secretly filmed abuse and bullying at the Winterbourne View care home.

This briefing outlines the benefits of the new policies, how they will operate and how they are designed to combat wider issues in the healthcare sector. Click 'View Briefing' to read on.
