UK Government announces review of taxation of non-domiciled individuals

Overview

The new Government's formal programme for its five-year term contains a pledge to review the taxation of non-domiciled individuals. With the controversial changes that were enacted by the Finance Act 2008 still a painful memory for the civil servants who drew them up and the industry professionals who had to interpret them, it is perhaps something of a surprise that a new government would consider reexamining these provisions so soon. However, both parties within the coalition have reasons to want to review the rules, according to this briefing from Macfarlanes' private client team.
