Sound the alarm: disclosure obligations in light of Hong Kong market turmoil

Overview

The recent turmoil in the global stock markets has prompted the Hong Kong Stock Exchange to re-publish a letter to issuers to remind them of their obligations to disclose price sensitive information in a timely manner. The HKEx considers the re-publication of the letter at this juncture to be necessary because according to its analysis, "Hong Kong listed issuers, as a whole, do not have a well developed practice of regularly updating the market on their finances".

This briefing outlines what is meant by price sensitive information, who is responsible for disclosing it and what can be done to ensure compliance.
