Solving disputes in the County Courts

Overview

The Ministry of Justice recently launched a consultation on proposals to reform the County Courts. If implemented, these proposals would have a major impact on local authorities because many more disputes would be heard in the County Courts, mediation of disputes would be mandatory in some cases and the position on recoverability of costs in some kinds of proceedings would change significantly.

The consultation period expires on 30 June 2011 so local authorities have a little under two months to respond to the consultation document.

Eversheds considers the most important proposed changes.
