Social media in the workplace – the major risks and how to deal with them

Overview

Based on over 300 online interviews, this report from DLA Piper offers an introduction to social media in the workplace and in-depth analysis of their potential risks. The responses, which include views from both employees and senior decision makers in large businesses, are analysed and presented with detailed commentary. Additionally, advice is given on dealing with the pitfalls of engaging with social media from an employer’s point of view.

The results demonstrate that whilst social media is being embraced in the corporate world, the pace at which it is developing is such that organisations’ policies and procedures are struggling to keep up. The report goes on to show how few businesses have adequate procedures in place to protect themselves yet they are looking to increase their business use of social media.
