Overview
In September 2008, the Hong Kong District Court convicted two bankers, three finance/corporate lawyers and a listed company financial controller of conspiracy to defraud in connection with their work on the takeover of imGO (later renamed "Shanghai Land").
In a judgment handed down yesterday, however, the Court of Appeal quashed the conviction of the principal banker in respect of conspiracy to defraud, and varied the lower court's findings in relation to two of the three lawyers.
