Relight and regulate my fire: Indonesia's reforms to coal and mineral contracts

Overview

The Indonesian Government has formally legislated the establishment of a team tasked with negotiating amendments to existing coal and mineral Contracts of Work. The Government views these amends as necessary to bring them into line with Indonesia's Mining Law passed in January 2009, sending a very clear indication to CoW holders that the Government intends to see through the  implementation of these mining regulatory reforms.

In this briefing, Bakers & McKenzie provides a brief history of the Mining Law and its effect on CoW holders; who the new changes apply to; what changes are foreshadowed through the amendment process; and what CoW holders should now be thinking about.
