Overview

The Independent Commission on Banking was set up in the wake of the financial crisis to consider reforms of the UK banking sector, in an effort to promote financial stability and competition.

This interim report sets out the Commission’s current and provisional views on possible reforms to improve stability and competition in UK banking, and seeks responses to those views.

The purpose of the report is to focus the next stage of debate on reform options which, in the current and provisional view of the Commission, appear to have most merit.
