Promotion of pharma products in China - recent developments

Overview

In recent years, foreign investors have been beating a path to China. Emphatically positioned as the big player in the emerging markets phenomenon, this trend is most apparent in the healthcare and pharmaceuticals industry where growth continues apace.

Analysts at IMS Health predict that pharmaceutical sales in China, now the world’s third largest market, will increase by over a quarter to more than $50bn in 2011.

DLA Piper lists the changes in the most recent version of the R&D-based Pharmaceutical Association Committee Code of Practice on the promotion of pharmaceutical products, including:

• Broadening of the Scope of the Code
• What is ethical pre-approval and/or 'off label' communication?
• Speaker fees
