Overview
A significant amount of the Localism Bill is committed to planning matters and planning is an important part of the Government’s plans to give control to local residents under the Big Society agenda.
Stakeholders widely acknowledged that the current planning system, which Eric Pickles stated needed a "radical reboot" in the open source planning document of spring last year, was inefficient, bureaucratic and costly.
Saying this, it remains open to wide (and often heated) debate as to whether the planning elements of the Localism Bill will be an effective and positive approach in its entirety.
