PFI has always had a tough time in the media. Too expensive, too inflexible, privatisation by the back door and so on. Before the election, even the Conservative Party added its voice to the growing disquiet (although PFI was first introduced by the Conservatives in 1992). Following the change of Government and the serious public expenditure cuts that now seem inevitable, Eversheds asks whether PFI is still a useful model for defence procurement.
