Overview
Effective from 30 January 2012, China's new Foreign Investment Catalogue reflects its commitment to continue opening the market to foreign investment. It follows China's 12th Five-Year Plan, which seeks to build an innovative and environmentally-friendly economy.
As with previous catalogues, the New Catalogue lists "encouraged", "restricted" and "prohibited" foreign investment projects. In particular, the New Catalogue encourages foreign investment in advanced manufacturing, energy conservation, renewable resources, new materials, the service industry and the high-tech sector.
This briefing from Herbert Smith highlight the principal changes to the current 2007 foreign investment catalogue with a look at "permitted", "encouraged" and "restricted" activities.
