New obligation to register cranes

Overview

From 6 April 2010, all conventional tower cranes used on construction sites must be notified to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). The cost of each registration is £20GBP, although there is no immediate penalty for failing to notify the HSE. Persistent offenders should, however, expect more serious action through the courts.

This overview by Allen & Overy looks at why a change was required in the first place, then goes on to assess the new legislation as well as outlining how it could affect you.
