Overview
Michael Gove recently announced a new privately financed school building programme aimed at improving up to 300 of the nation’s schools, the first of which would re-open in 2014.
With the country facing a multi-billion pound repairs backlog across its schools, the new programme will focus attention on those buildings most in need of refurbishment.
Following recommendations in the James review, the Government hopes by standardised designs, increased use of centralised procurement and a focus on accountability for building maintenance, will all result in better value for local authorities.
