The state of litigation: reduction in Royal Courts of Justice claims

Overview

The Ministry of Justice recently published its annual statistics on judicial and court activity during 2010.

There was a reduction in the number of claims issued in the Royal Courts of Justice in 2010. In 2009, there were 25,480 claims issued in the RCJ (excluding the Administrative Court). In 2010, the figure was down to 21,424 (approximately 16 per cent lower). This is the first time that there has been a decline in the number of claims issued in the RCJ since 2007.

This briefing from Macfarlanes delves into the published statistics to provide a clearer overview of last year's litigation activity.
