Overview
On September 28, 2010, the Korean Government announced a list of 470 companies whose emissions
of greenhouse gases shall be regulated pursuant to the Framework Act on Low Carbon Green Growth. This briefing from Kim & Chang explains the impact of the new regulations.
Entities whose 3 year average GHG emissions are at least 125 ktCO2e/year or individual places of businesses (factories or offices) whose GHG emissions are at least 25 ktCO2e/year are to be designated as Regulated Companies in 2010. According to the Government, 374 companies from the industry & power generation sector, 46 companies from the building & transportation sector, 27 companies from the agriculture & livestock sector, and 23 companies from the waste sector have been designated as "Regulated Companies," the total emissions from which will account for more than 60% of Korea's national GHG emissions.
