Legal process outsourcing - everything you need to know

Overview

Outsourcing is generally considered the preserve of the larger commercial law firms, but there are signs that small to medium-sized firms are beginning to look at outsourcing and other sourcing options such as shared services to cut costs and remain competitive.

Some law firms have also started to 'spin-off' or commoditise parts of their business. In some cases, firms are using their offices in other jurisdictions to do their legal work and offering that service to other firms. In others, general counsel are going directly to legal process outsourcing providers and bypassing panel firms.

This guide from The Law Society explains the basics, highlights key issues to consider and profiles the experience of firms that have used LPO both onshore and offshore. Topics discussed include:

  • Why are firms outsourcing their work?

  • On-shore or offshore?
