This Baker & McKenzie briefing includes a number of important legal and economic developments in Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam from January to June 2011.

Across the legal, political and economic landscapes of the region, there have been major amendments to banking and finance, imports and exports, securities and tax and business, providing both opportunities and challenges for businesses in the region.

Notably, tax incentives have been introduced for securities investors in Cambodia, while in Laos, WTO accession talks are gathering steam in the context of comprehensive domestic legal changes that will accompany it. Meanwhile, Vietnam has been trying to cool inflation and restrict “non-essential” imports with a broad range of new financial customs and regulatory measures.
