The impact of board composition on company performance during the downturn

Overview

This Eversheds report is a summary of the findings of a global investigation into the relationship between board composition and the performance of companies during the financial crisis.

The report aims to establish whether the size and shape of a board played a part in the success, or otherwise, of an organisation.

The report looks at board composition and share price performance of 241 of the leading global companies between January 2007 and December 2009, including companies headquartered in the UK, continental Europe, the US and the Asia-Pacific region.

This analysis was complemented with in-depth interviews with 50 directors from a cross-section of the 241 companies involved, who provided their opinions on board role, board composition and board effectiveness.
