Home Secretary announces review of ‘draconian’ Independent Safeguarding Authority’s vetting and barring scheme

Overview

More than 66,000 employees, charities and voluntary groups are being informed of the Home Secretary, Theresa May’s decision to review and fundamentally remodel the new vetting and barring scheme, which came into force in October 2009. The review is likely to scale back the requirements of the scheme and the categories of employees and volunteers working with children or vulnerable adults who are required to register with the Independent Safeguarding Authority.
