Guidelines concerning the handling of personal data of shareholders in Japan

Overview

On 2 February 2011, the National Kabukon in Japan (Zenkoku Kabukon Rengōkai) announced its updated guidelines for the proper handling of shareholders' personal data.

The guidelines primarily focus on the application of the Personal Information Protection Act of Japan, the Companies Act of Japan and other laws such as the Act on Book-Entry Transfer of Company Bonds, Shares, etc. on a company's shareholder registry.

Kabukon is a national association whose members are mostly listed companies in Japan. It researches and provides information to its members on legislation and practices concerning shares and other matters.
