Overview
The German Government recently adopted a new energy strategy intended to achieve Germany's key energy policy goals of climate protection, economic efficiency and security of energy supplies.
The strategy extends the lifespan of existing nuclear power plants by up to 14 years - reversing the decision of a previous centre-left Government that they should be phased out by 2021 - and sets a clean electricity target 50% of the total within 20 years, and up to 80% within the next 40 years.
This briefing from Herbert Smith Gleiss Lutz Stibbe notes the strategy’s key points and their significance.
