Carter-Ruck’s analysis of the Government’s new draft Defamation Bill questions whether it actually improves the Bill, and considers whether it will be costlier to keep than previously.

The report observes that the rationale offered for the need to “encapsulate key elements of the law in statute in an area where extensive case law already exists” is wholly inconsistent, and looks at the impact the Bill will have on journalists, academics and scientists.
