Overview

The OFT has given Yorkshire Building Society the green light in their acquisition of Chelsea Building Society as they identified no competition concerns on a national, regional or local basis. In relation to each of the overlapping areas of mortgages, savings accounts and insurance, the parties' combined market shares at national level was less than 5%. The OFT was therefore convinced that the merger would not result in a substantial lessening of competition within a market or markets in the UK.
