Competition - what to expect in 2012

Overview

Macfarlanes' Marc Israel peers into the crystal ball to discuss the likely developments in competition law over the next 12 months.

Chief among these is the Government's forthcoming response to proposals for reform of the UK's competition regime. These include merging the OFT and Competition Commission into a single Competition and Markets Authority. If this went ahead it would result in the biggest shake-up in this area since the Competition Act came into force in 2000.

In addition to this, this briefing predicts and discusses more "market studies"; more "super-complaints"; a greater focus on conduct by dominant firms; and a more private actions for damages.
